‘Udruga Sjena’

Making 103 consecutive donations is not a small achievement and finding organisations such as Udruga Sjena to donate to, makes your efforts noticed and valued by those who need them the most – children.
Udruga Sjena was founded in 2013 and is managed by a few mothers who are raising children with different kinds of disabilities like autism, cerebral palsy and CDLS. Motivated by their own struggles and obstacles they created an independent support group to help every family facing any kind of disabilitiy and rare disease.
From the very beginning they have been advocating equality and trying to reduce the social stigma related to a disability. Their main focus is pressure on legislation, inclusion for both children and adults with disabilities, informing their community about the importance of early intervention, and legal aspects on their rights and how to consume them.
Your £5000 (€5824,50) will help Udruga Sjena mark CdLS Day in Croatia for the fourth year in a row, and allows for a mentoring program for families that provides full support for the realization of maximum legal rights for their children or family members.

When it comes to achieving a long term legacy from this donation, I am sure you will be pleased as we all were to learn that, Udruga Sjena has been instrumental in changing the legislation in Croatia and has enabled many meaningful changes for families with disabled children.
The donation presentation brought tears during a speech by the organisation’s chairperson, Suzana Rešetar, when she said:
“This recognition from outside Croatia has given us a new wind beneath our wings and confirmed that we are seen as people with feelings, emotions and love for our children and not as a burden on society and the state.”

We would also like to convey our thanks to the British Ambassador in Croatia, Simon Thomas, who supported this event by his short but powerful speech on how Scotland fans are doing so much for those all powerful personal and human connections across borders that go beyond the realm of diplomacy.
